Did your school or college block many websites?
Well, not anymore. 😉
You can bypass blocked websites at school in a number of ways. To be honest, I never tried this at my school but this definitely works.
There are many free VPN services which allow you freedom in browsing the web and hides your identity as well. For instance, you could easily unblock any school internet filters. 😛
Most of the college and school internet are restricted from most websites except for educational ones such as Wikipedia. This is quite frustrating, and here's how you can bypass these internet filters.

How to Bypass Blocked Websites at School?
You can unblock any restricted websites easily using VPN or proxies. There are many ways to bypass these school filters and most of them work flawlessly. 😉
In this guide, I'm listing three different ways to bypass blocked websites at school for free. You can use VPNBook and also online proxy browsers unless they are blocked as well.
If you didn't know, Google Chrome provides some awesome VPN extensions like Hola and Betternetto keep you safe from online browsing. In fact, these can be used to unblock any website as well.
1. Use VPN Connections
You can try any VPN services you want. However, I love using VPNBook which is completely free. They provide free PPTP VPN which is supported across most devices.
You could easily use the same VPN on your Mac OS or Windows and even on your smartphones. They provide about five servers for public use which are really fast and in terms of price, this thing is a win. 😀
For me, VPN connections are probably the best in terms of stability but sometimes, they tend to get slower than your actual internet speed. It's mainly due to a high volume of connected devices across the world.
How to Setup a VPN on Windows? You can wonder how to add a VPN connection in your Windows PC. To be honest, I'm using Windows 10 and that's how you can setup a VPN connection in minutes.
- Click on the Ethernet icon or WiFi signal icon on the taskbar.
- Go to Network & Internet Settings.
- You will find VPN on the left side, click on it.
- Click on Add a VPN Connection.
- Fill the options with the VPN server address and other credentials.
You can see a quick screenshot on how I setup a VPN connection on Windows 10 in just minutes. You can find the VPN server address at VPNBook. Just like I named it TechiePaw, you can use any connection name you want.
After filling that thing, just save it and you will be able to connect to it anytime you want. VPNBook changes their password daily, so make sure to visit their account's page for finding the new password. 😀
You can solve this problem by purchasing a premium VPN like TunnelBear which I wouldn't recommend for a college or school student. You only get 500 MB a month with TunnelBear if you are a free user which is too less.
How to Setup a VPN on Mac OS and other iDevices?Let's see the easy way to use VPN on your MacBook or other iDevices.
I would love to recommend an app called Cargo VPN. There are some few reasons I recommend this app over other VPN apps.
Cargo VPN will encrypt all your connections and hide your IP address and location. This will allow you to access any website your school is blocking. You can also hide your identity from BitTorrent and this is something students need. 😉
Here's how you can use Cargo VPN.
- Download the Cargo VPN app.
- Choose your location.
- Connect!
2. Use Online Proxy Browsers
This is a downgrade from VPN connections and it's kinda irritating but I feel the urge to include this as well. To be honest, this thing is great if you're trying to access one particular website which is blocked by your school.
Say, for example, I'm using my school WiFi and I want to watch YouTube but it's not accessible. So, I could easily use a proxy browser and start watching YouTube anytime.
But I wanted to open several tabs with different websites on every tab, then, this probably, is not a good idea. 😛
How to Use Hide.Me Proxy Browser? You might think which proxy browser can be best for browsing blocked websites for free. Well, it's Hide.me which is in my opinion, the best so far.
Here's how you can bypass any school internet filters using Hide.me. I personally use this for certain websites that are banned by our government. That's a cool nifty website which requires no download at all. 😛
- Go to Hide.me Proxy Browser.
- Select any Proxy Location.
- Type the URL you want to visit.
- Click on Visit Anonymously.
That's how simple this really is. The biggest advantage of using this online browser is that it supports HTTPS encryption meaning all your data is safe and also can be used to access any HTTPS websites like YouTube, Facebook and more.
I used this to access YouTube many times just for testing, and it streams it better than some VPN connections which is impressive. 😀
3. Use Tor Browser
Tor Browser is probably one of the best ways to bypass blocked websites at school. One of my friends living in a college hostel is using Tor which gives him total freedom while using the Internet.
Tor not only unblocks the site restrictions but also provides a seamless experience as nothing can be traced. You are completely anonymous while using Tor.
This is my recommendation if your school or college blocked most websites except educational sites. 😛
How to Use Tor to Unblock Websites at School? This is very simple and anyone can do this without a proper guide. You need to download and install, and start using it as it's completely free.
Firstly, you need to download the Tor Browser for your system. Please note, this is only for Windows-based systems. If you're using Mac OS or Linux, you can go for the other three options I mentioned. 🙁
- Download Tor Browser.
- Install the software.
- Open Tor and configure accordingly.
You guessed it right, it's that simple! Tor Browser will help you configure the browser for the maximum benefit and user experience. This will bypass any internet filters and more. 😉
Now, once you have finished setting up, you can access any blocked websites using Tor Browser for free. Really, any website! That's the coolest part of Tor Browser for students.
4. Use Google Chrome Extensions
If you love using Google Chrome more than any browser, then this is for you! 😛
You could use certain extensions to unblock any websites on any network. There are ones like Hola and Betternet which I used the most if needed.
If I was to unblock websites on Google Chrome directly, I would go for Hola which is similar to Betternet but in my opinion, is a better choice in terms of more free features.
- Click on the Ethernet icon or WiFi signal icon on the taskbar.
- Go to Network & Internet Settings.
- You will find VPN on the left side, click on it.
- Click on Add a VPN Connection.
- Fill the options with the VPN server address and other credentials.

How to Bypass School Internet Filters on Google Chrome? You might be wondering if you would use Betternet which is newer. Well, it's my preference to go with Hola which seemed better to me. 😉
Using Hola:
- Install Hola extension.
- Go to any URL from Chrome.
- Click on Hola icon beside the address bar.
- Choose any location.
- Bam!

The best part about Hola is, you can choose almost any country! But in Betternet, you're limited to just a few countries like the US and UK. 😀
Using Betternet:
- Install Betternet extension.
- Click on the Betternet icon beside the address bar.
- Go to any URL (even blocked websites).
- Boom!
In terms of stability, I have to give the win to Betternet. I found Betternet to be more efficient and a bit more speedy. Like Hola, it also does a great job at video streaming which is great. 😉
5. Use HTTPS Everywhere for Google Chrome
HTTPS Everywhere is a Google Chrome extension which is free. This thing is utterly dope. It's also available for Firefox and Opera.
Your school might block the port 80 which is for HTTP connections. But, they often forget to block the port 443 which is for HTTPS connections.

So, if you just force Google Chrome to use HTTPS, you can easily access any blocked websites, isn't? 😀
How to Use and Enable HTTPS Everywhere? Here's a little guide to enable HTTPS Everywhere on Google Chrome.
- Install HTTPS Everywhere (Opera, Firefox, and Chrome).
- Enable the extension and make sure it's active.
Google Chrome will automatically start using the HTTP to HTTPS rule for all sites. So, there's nothing to do manually which is great. When was fnaf released. 😉
Conclusion
This is my ultimate guide to bypass school filter filters and to gain access to any blocked websites at school. As you can see, it's really simple. You just need to find which method works best for you.
I have already said, I have never tried them at school. But I did try them at home and as per many forums, they work without a doubt. In fact, one of my friends is using Tor Browser which works flawlessly for him. 😀
